Vicenza and Its Province

Visiting the City
of Vicenza

Vicenza, the birthplace and workplace of Andrea Palladio, is a stunning city with many interesting buildings and attractions. Along Corso Andrea Palladio, you can walk through the city from west to east, passing by Vicenza's most important and famous landmarks. You can admire the Palladian Basilica, the Olympic Theater, and the Chiericati Palace, along with numerous magnificent palaces on the main streets. The historic center of Vicenza encompasses all of Andrea Palladio's most beautiful and important works. To visit the city center of Vicenza, you can spend half a day. If you prefer, you can extend your visit to Palladio's hometown.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

The itinerary proposed by Hotel Fracanzana starts from Piazza del Castello, where you will find the remains of the ancient Scaliger Castle. From here, the route leads along Corso Andrea Palladio, passing by Palazzo Porto Breganze and Palazzo Thiene Bonin Longare.

After just 200 meters, during which you will pass by some beautiful palaces, Corso Antonio Fogazzaro branches off to the left. Let's stop here for a short visit to Palazzo Valmarana Braga Rosa and the Church of San Lorenzo.

Back on Corso Andrea Palladio, take Contrà Pasini, located directly across from Corso Antonio Fogazzaro, and continue until you reach Piazza Duomo where the Cathedral of Vicenza is located.

On the east side of Piazza Duomo, follow the street to Piazza dei Signori with its monumental Palladian Basilica. It is worth stopping here for a while and enjoying the splendid atmosphere of Vicenza.

Via Contrà del Monte, you will reach Corso Andrea Palladio again, which we recommend crossing to have a quick look at the beautiful palaces of Contrà Porti.

Continue along Corso Andrea Palladio until you reach the Church of Santa Corona, which houses Palladio's original tomb as well as some beautiful paintings by Bellini and Veronese.

Finally, you will arrive at Piazza Matteotti where the Chiericati Palace stands, housing the Art Gallery of Vicenza, and the Olympic Theater, the first and oldest indoor theater of the modern era.

Numerous bars and restaurants in the city center will invite you to linger. If you have some more time, don't miss the Basilica of Monte Berico in the south of the city, as well as the Valmarana ai Nani and Rotonda villas, which are truly worth a visit!

The Asiago plateau, the Berici Hills, and Recoaro Terme offer hikers, cyclists, and those seeking relaxation a variety of trails and fields to suit their needs.
